This is our backyard on Sunday.
It’s about 70 or 80 feet high. Big, solid oak leaning well away from our house.
This is the backyard on Tuesday morning, after Hurricane Sandy hit us in southwestern Connecticut …
That’s our hot tub, which I spent Sunday draining, scrubbing and refilling. On Tuesday, it was empty. Also took out the deck around it. Here’s the 8-inch concrete pad that was the bottom step next to the tub: But more importantly, this is where the top of the tree landed:
Scraped the side of the house on the main floor by the kitchen, ripped a screen window right where Li’l Diva stood by the sliding glass kitchen door when this happened:
Most importantly, we are all fine. Our new generator is kicking ass and I’m typing this from a nearby bar with Wi-Fi and 30 beers on tap. We will survive.
Hope the rest of you fared well. Catch up with you soon/
Glad to see/hear you survived semi-intact.
ReplyDeleteA truly narrow miss. Glad this happened this year instead of next year; one more year's growth and it would have been worse. Good luck cleaning up!
ReplyDeleteUgh. I'm so sorry. Glad you're all safe, but still so sorry.
ReplyDeleteUGH. Glad to see everyone's okay. Sometimes you have to wonder how many angels we all have watching over us. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys are unharmed and close to a modern convenience like wireless beer.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you made it through mostly intake! Look on the bright side, plenty of firewood!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from you. Take care and be safe until order is restored completely.
ReplyDeleteWondered how you guys were faring... Glad to hear you family made it threw safely!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are all safe. We fared well except for the electricity. Hoping it comes back next week :).
ReplyDeleteI die a little inside when a beautiful tree falls. During Hurricane Wilma, we lost four trees in our yard. Up until recently, the satellite photos of our house showed our bare yard.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're all safe and sound. Hope you are not without power for too long.
Oh my word. I am so happy none of YOU were injured. And my whole heart goes out to everyone that lost so much.
ReplyDeleteI am still stranded out here in PA because we still don't have any power in my town in NJ. But at least I am safe.
Miserable!
ReplyDeleteSo scary! Glad you're all okay.
ReplyDeleteOy. Glad you're okay.
